Town hall bosses flush after loos sell for THREE TIMES guide price

A former public toilet in Penryn, Cornwall, sold for £28,000—nearly three times its guide price—after attracting high demand due to its central location and potential use.

Town hall bosses are flush after a set of public toilets that hit the market sold for almost three times the guide price.

The stone-clad detached building was freehold and separated into ladies and gents.

The former public conveniences in Penryn town centre, Cornwall, had a guide price of £10,000 to £15,000.

They were marketed as having the potential for other uses and sold at auction for £28,000.

They were sold by Cornwall Council which previously leased the loos to Penryn Town Council.

In the summer of 2023, the town council appealed for ideas for the upkeep of the public toilets after a spate of vandalism.

A year later the town council handed the toilets back to Cornwall, as reported by Luxury Property News.

Auctioneer David Henwood of Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers said: “These public conveniences proved in demand at auction.

A former public toilet in Penryn, Cornwall, sold for £28,000—nearly three times its guide price—after attracting high demand due to its central location and potential use.

“Their location, often in town centres or in tourist areas, usually prove popular, as in this case where the sale price exceeded the guide quite comfortably.”

A large proportion of Penryn’s buildings date from Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian times.

Because of that the town has been designated as an important conservation area.
