The home was given to Madame Le Normand d’Étiolles, later known as the Marquise de Pompadour, by King Louis XV in 1745.

Born Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, she rose from relatively humble beginnings to become one of the most influential figures in his court thanks to her intelligence and charm.
Though she was only his official mistress for a few years, her influence extended well beyond their romantic relationship – with Madame de Pompadour playing a key role in political decisions and cultural developments.

She remained a close confidante of the king until her death in 1764.
The chateau has undergone significant remodelling since it was first erected in the 1400s, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The current structure was largely rebuilt in the 15th century, renovated in 1614, remodelled in the 18th century and then again in the 19th.
It was passed on through families and relatives before being sold in 2004 – and is now up for sale once again.

This unique property is now used as a home, as well as a museum, wedding venue and a historic chateau to be admired by the general public in the summer months.
The sitting rooms celebrate a vintage aesthetic with open brick walls, beamed ceilings and rounded corners.

The listing reads: “An historic fortified chateau, it shows traces of occupation dating from the 11th century.
“Stone-built, with original oak and chestnut timbering, it has been lovingly and authentically restored by master craftsmen to its former beauty, yet possesses all modern amenities.
“It has been successfully used as a comfortable, manageable family home but would work as a rental or function facility.

“The grenier has been used for concerts and there is a sizeable galleried barn makes a sports/play area.
“Nearby you will find a delightful three-bedroom cottage, a swimming pool, a large poolroom, a bread-oven and two fishing lakes, stocked with carp.”
The stunning chateau is located in Corrèze, France.
It is currently on sale for approximately £1.4m (€1.65m) and available with Leggett.
