A tiny Scottish croftland made up of multiple islands with its own Viking ruins could be yours for just £170,000.

The idyllic yet remote land comes with the remains of two houses and one incomplete property, giving the owner the licence to create their own island paradise, Luxury Property News reports.

Set across 19.02 hectares (294.10 acres) in the Outer Hebrides, you won’t be isolated as it lies five miles from the airport on the Isle of Benbecula.

The land isn’t great for grazing, making it tricky for any potential farmers but for those who love untouched, wild scenery, its natural beauty is undeniable.

There are also several lochs within and around the area, so it almost certainly comes with fishing opportunities.

The Rightmove description reads: “The croft has no residential property, though there are three ruined/unfinished houses.

“These include an archaeological site of an ancient ruin which is in the style of a Viking longhouse, although it has never been established if it dates as far back as the Viking occupation.

“There is also remains of a sheiling [a shelter for those looking after the land] from the 18th century and the remains of a family residence used between 1930 and 1952.

“There was also a one-and-a-half storey house under construction up until 1952, but not completed as the island has been uninhabited since that date.”

It is being sold as an owner-occupied croft, which estate agent Bell Ingram said is subject to a special law in Scotland.

It said: “The land is made up of various small islands and small lochs.

“This is similar in effect to the Freehold and Leasehold of a block of flats.

“The crofting tenant has bought the land, whilst retaining the tenancy.

As the tenancy is still subject to crofting regulations and overseen by the Crofting Commission, owner-occupiers remain obligated to live within 32 km of the croft and to actively manage the land.
