A historic pub said to be haunted has gone on the market with a guide price of just £150,000.

The Grade II-listed boozer comes with eight acres of land, a 75-pitch campsite, bunkhouse accommodation, a restaurant and parking for more than 100 vehicles, making it one of the most unusual hospitality businesses currently up for sale in Britain.

Believed to date back to around 1795, the property has been serving customers for more than 200 years and is thought to be one of the oldest surviving inns within a British national park.

Despite the surprisingly low asking price, the sale is for the business and a protected Duchy of Cornwall leasehold, rather than the freehold.

The Plume of Feathers is being listed by Stonesmith Agents And Valuers Limited, and sits in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, as reported by Luxury Property News.

Located in the village of Princetown, the inn predates nearby Dartmoor Prison by several decades.

According to local historical records, it has operated continuously as a public house since it first opened.

The sale also includes an 80-cover restaurant, a recently refurbished commercial kitchen, an 18-bed bunkhouse, a three-bedroom owner’s apartment and additional staff accommodation.

Outside, the grounds extend to around eight acres, including paddocks, parking for more than 100 vehicles, beer gardens, a 75-pitch camping field and a separate touring area for up to 10 motorhomes.

The pub is described as the only approved campsite on the high moor and has long attracted walkers, campers, outdoor enthusiasts and coach parties visiting Dartmoor.

The business has previously been used as a base for schools, universities, military groups and outdoor activity organisations using the national park.

The listing describes it as a “rare opportunity with tremendous potential and a strong trading history”.

The inn also has a spooky reputation.

A history of Dartmoor inns published in 1992 notes that the Plume of Feathers is “said to be haunted”, adding another chapter to its long history.

Princetown itself attracts more than six million visitors to Dartmoor every year and is best known as the home of the former Dartmoor Prison.

According to the listing, the pub is fully management-run and offers multiple income streams through its bar, restaurant, functions, accommodation and camping business.

Estate agent Stonesmith Agents and Valuers also confirmed the business remains open and trading while it is being marketed.

The lease runs for 30 years from June 2023, with a current annual rent of £30,000.
