A public footpath is on the market for a whopping £2,000.

The unusual plot – a 60-yard stretch of pathway – is heading under the hammer and could set someone back around £33 per yard.

But the bizarre sale comes with strings attached, as the winning bidder will be legally responsible for keeping the walkway in shape and free from obstructions.

The strip of land, known as Haworth Way, sits between Sunningdale and Greenways Drive in Norwich.

It gives locals direct access to a nearby park, complete with a playground and plenty of green space, and it’s just a short stroll from Eaton Golf Club.

The online auction is being run by Brown & Co estate agents, with bidding closing on 29 October at 11am, as reported by Luxury Property News.

Haworth Way has a guide price of £500 to £1,000, but buyers will need to fork out an extra £1,764 on top.

A spokesperson for Brown & Co said: “We are pleased to offer to the market this small strip of land in between Sunningdale and Greenways, South of the city.

“The land forms part of the public footpath Haworth Way with mature tree & shrub borders.

“Interested parties are urged to read the legal pack and seek legal advice with regard to the right of way and other rights and obligations that apply to this land.

“The successful bidder will be required to pay a contribution towards the auctioneer’s listing fees in the sum of £594 (including VAT) in addition to the administration charge of £1,170 (including VAT) and deposit on the auction day.
