The contemporary kitchen features sleek grey units, integrated appliances and marble-effect worktops.

A spacious open-plan lounge and dining area has been decorated with modern furnishings, colourful artwork and an abundance of houseplants, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The generous double bedroom boasts large windows, plush carpets and plenty of room for storage.

Meanwhile, the bathroom includes marble-style tiling, a full-sized bath and an illuminated mirror.

Residents also have access to landscaped communal gardens set among the prison’s historic stone buildings.

The apartment is being marketed by Bernards Estate Agents and is listed as leasehold with around 120 years remaining on the lease.

The property forms part of the former HM Prison Kingston, which opened in 1877 and operated for more than 130 years before closing in 2013.

The Victorian jail became known for housing long-term and life-sentence prisoners before the site was sold and redeveloped into hundreds of homes.

Many of the prison’s original architectural features were retained as part of the transformation.

Among its most notorious inmates was Archibald Hall.

Hall murdered several victims while working as a butler for wealthy and aristocratic employers during the 1970s.

After receiving life sentences, he spent years behind bars and died at Kingston Prison in 2002 while serving a whole-life tariff.

The prison also housed Leslie Grantham before he found fame as Dirty Den Watts in EastEnders.

Grantham served time for the manslaughter of a German taxi driver while serving as a soldier in West Germany during the 1960s.

After his release, he went on to become one of Britain’s best-known soap stars.

Kingston Prison is among the institutions where he served part of his sentence.

Now, house hunters have the chance to own a piece of the prison’s extraordinary history – with rather more comfort than its former inmates ever enjoyed.

The apartment is currently listed for offers in excess of £180,000.
