A stunning off-grid log cabin has gone on the market for £125,000 – but the new owner will have to be prepared to move out for one week a year.
The property has been described as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to enjoy all the trappings of normal accommodation while being surrounded by ancient woodland.
Situated in the woods of Whittle Dene, Northumberland, the home boasts two bedrooms, a small kitchen, a family bathroom, and a living space with a log burner.

Named Stanholme, it is believed to be the only currently available off-grid woodland cabin in the UK, and comes with a large geodome for growing vegetables and herbs.

Inside, the home is fully wired for electricity, run by four large solar panels, and is fully plumbed with hot and cold running water provided by gas boilers, while heat is offered by a large log burner.
Built in 1926, the cabin is one of 10 in the area, making up a small wooded community called Whittle Dene Woods, and is only accessible on foot.
While you’ll technically be living off-grid, the cabin is equipped with an internet router and an aerial on the roof providing 5G broadband – so you’ll manage to stay in touch with the outside world with ease.

The cabin has been on an uninterrupted one-year rolling lease for the past century, as reported by Luxury Property News.
The only small catch? The new owner will have to vacate the premises every year for an entire week, from 25 December – 1 January, as the occupancy restriction only allows for inhabitation for 51 weeks of the year.
However, if that doesn’t put you off, there are plenty of perks – including no council tax, and a one-bedroom mini cabin shared between the 10 woodland homes on an ad hoc basis.

Outside, there is also a decked area and fire pit, along with an outdoor compost toilet and a tool shed, shared between the community.
The listing, held by GFW, describes the home as “ideal for those who wish to live close to nature and increase sustainability with minimal outgoings.
