There are even rumours that Thomas Becket, known as Saint Thomas of Canterbury, once hid in the caves while fleeing from King Henry II.

With five bedrooms, a large garden, garage, and gated driveway, the property has been preserved well by its current owners over the last 20 years.

The home retains its historical charm with a medieval roof structure and wall framework, as well as wattle and daub sections.

Over the years, Beckets, in Eastry, a village in Kent, near Sandwich, has evolved, with its original timber-framed structure expanded in the 18th century to include a Georgian front façade.

In the 1970s, an additional wing was built at one end, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The entrance leads to an oak-framed porch and a traditional country kitchen featuring terracotta tiles, bespoke wooden units and a lantern skylight.

An adjoining breakfast area leads to a dining room, where an enormous inglenook fireplace with a Bressumer beam makes a grand impression.

The living area offers dual-aspect views, built-in shelving, and a statement marble fireplace.

An oak staircase – reportedly from a Tunbridge Wells mansion – leads upstairs to the original first floor.

In the newer wing, there is a vast sitting room which was once a music space.

Upstairs there are two further bedrooms and a bathroom, while the main staircase gives access to the original part of the house.

A family bathroom includes a roll-top bath and the property’s generous double bedrooms offer views over the surrounding areas.

But while the interior of the home is extremely eye-catching, it’s what lies beneath that truly sets the home apart.

Beckets holds the only known private access.
