A five-hundred-year-old property is on sale for just £120,000 – but there’s a bit of a catch

The Grade II-listed house was built in the middle of the 16th century when Elizabeth I was on the throne and William Shakespeare was writing his plays.

Plas Newydd is a large H-plan property that comes with a number of outbuildings and large grounds – making it the ideal opportunity to create a significant development, subject to consent.

But it is going to need a lot of work.

The house has holes in its walls and is covered in overgrowth.

Even its listing carries a caution, saying: “The property is bought as seen.

“Due to the condition there will be limited internal access for viewing purposes.

“Appropriate clothing including footwear must be worn during any arranged viewing.

The house was listed because of its ornate roof structure and for its importance as a scarce surviving example of a spere truss hall house, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The property in Ruabon, near Wrexham, north Wales, is up for auction on 28 August.

Agents Town and Country has set a guide price of £120,000 plus fees.

Those interested must register to bid beforehand.
