A couple in London was astonished to find an exquisite and valuable floor hidden beneath their carpet, potentially worth up to £25,000.
Josh and Emily Brooks, during the renovation of their home in Walthamstow, uncovered pristine diamond parquet flooring concealed under an old carpet.
The flooring, in immaculate condition, stretches through their hallway and into the lounge.
Josh, 37, and Emily, 38, enlisted the help of a flooring expert who estimated the flooring’s value to be between £20,000 and £25,000.
The couple shared their extraordinary discovery on TikTok, where their video quickly went viral, amassing 2.6 million views.
“We noticed a small section when we first visited the house, but discovering the entire diamond parquet in such perfect condition was truly astonishing,” said Josh, a camera operator, in an interview with Luxury Property News.
After consulting with the flooring specialist, they were informed that the oak was among the best he had seen, and given its extensive coverage, the estimated worth was between £20,000 and £25,000.
The couple plans to retain the flooring, opting for a fine sanding followed by either varnishing or staining.
Their TikTok post has garnered over 225,000 likes, with viewers expressing their amazement.
One person commented, “You hit the floor lottery!”
Another exclaimed, “Ooooo it’s a diamond parquet,” while someone else noted, “
At this point, we should thank previous generations for preserving such beautiful hardwood floors under carpets like that.”
Comments continued to flood in with sentiments like, “That is exquisitely phenomenal!”
and “You didn’t just strike gold. That’s finding a diamond. It’s beautiful.”
Another user echoed, “I would never stop crying.
They’re so beautiful,” and one more added, “My heart would stop.”
