An incredible ‘Hobbit’-style house has gone on the market – and it looks set to put The Shire’s usual homes to shame.

Called Underhill – a nod to the Tolkien books, where it features as a neighbourhood and an alias used by Frodo Baggins – the stunning home is nestled in Holme Valley, on the outskirts of the Peak District.

The Grade II-listed home is built into the countryside and covered in earth, spanning 3,900sq ft, and can be entered via a circular door, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The hourglass swimming pool beneath a large skylight is in the centre of the home, with an open-plan design so it can be viewed and accessed by various rooms.

Despite being largely subterranean, the interior is flooded with natural light thanks to roof lanterns and floor-to-ceiling windows, which take advantage of the stunning rural views, looking out onto fields and woodland.

Meanwhile outside, the home comes with just under one acre of land, including a paddock and stone outbuilding, as well as a double garage with workshop.

The home has featured on national and international television due to its quirky and innovative design, having been completed by architect Arthur Quarmby in 1975.
