£375k ‘shed’ barely fits a double bed – but it has a sea view

A £375,000 wooden chalet in Cornwall with sweeping sea views divides buyers – barely room for a double bed but nearly an acre of land included.

A tiny seaside ‘shed’ with barely enough room for a double bed has divided buyers – despite boasting sweeping sea views and nearly an acre of land.

The wooden chalet is on the market for a whopping £375,000 in Praa Sands, near Penzance, Cornwall.

It sits just a short stroll from the beach and the heart of the village, with its famous stretch of golden sand attracting surfers, paddleboarders, kayakers and families.

But while the location has plenty of appeal, the property’s compact size and hefty price tag have raised eyebrows online, as reported by Luxury Property News.

One person commented about the potential weather risks, writing: “I suspect you’d need good insurance at this time of year with the storms and balls of steel as well.”

Another suggested the building itself was not the main attraction, saying: “Mind you, its not like a lot of the value is in the shed, its in the land.

“You could self insure to rebuild it every 10 years, because it probably gets that level of wear and tear from being in a coastal environment anyway.”

Another added: “You’re paying for land location, the shed is a bonus.”

And someone else said: “It could blow away on days like today.”

Others questioned how the building would be classified, with one asking: “Is it even classed as a permanent structure or is it like a static caravan?”

One person who owned a flat near the sea said they had experienced some problems with the coastal conditions, adding: “I have a flat that near the sea – been there 50 years, bit of problem with one of the garage rooves [sic] a couple of years ago but otherwise fine.”

But others could see the appeal of the plot, imagining it as a family getaway.

One person said: “Imagine bringing all the family down to that in the summer, including parents and grandparents. Everyone can sleep in tents dotted around and then the main shed can be the place for family gatherings and meals.

“Right next to the beach, would be amazing for the kids.”

The property is set within just under an acre of private, established grounds.

Recently renovated, it has a sitting room which doubles as a bedroom, a kitchenette, shower room and bright sunroom.

Vaulted ceilings and plenty of natural light are said to make the most of the compact accommodation, while the elevated position offers far-reaching views across the coast.

The timber-built property is expected to be suitable for cash buyers only.

Outside, a private gated entrance opens onto lawned gardens with parking and mature hedging providing privacy from the South West Coast Path.

The grounds are largely planted with established shrubs and could potentially be adapted for other uses, subject to the necessary planning permissions.

Praa Sands is known for its long stretch of golden beach between Hoe Point and Rinsey Head.

Nearby are the secluded coves of Kenneggy Sands and Prussia Cove, while Rinsey Cove lies to the east.

The village is also home to the Sandbar Restaurant, perched above the beach.

Penzance is around ten miles away, offering shops, restaurants, art studios and a mainline railway station with direct services to London Paddington.

The historic market town of Helston is approximately six miles away.

It is being marketed by Stags.
