The historic pillbox in Chelmsford, Essex, dates back to 1940 and was built to help stop a potential German invasion.

It comes as Defence Secretary John Healey has told every government department to find one percent cuts in their capital budgets to plug a £4.7bn hole in the funding of the Defence Investment Plan.

The reductions come on top of cuts requested earlier this year to help fund the initial £10.3bn of the plan’s £15bn price tag.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch accused the Chancellor of offering “a plan to have a plan”, adding: “I bet Vladimir Putin’s really scared now.”

She also criticised Healey for failing to use his Budget to explain how he would boost defence spending to 3%.

Setting out his Budget, Healey hinted that reaching the target would require further cuts, telling MPs it would involve “looking hard at public spending”.

He said he would set out how the UK could reach 3% of GDP by 2030, and 3.5% by 2035, at next year’s spending review.

Now, those concerned about the country’s defences could take matters into their own hands by buying the concrete bunker.

The Type 24 pillbox was built as part of the General Headquarters Line, an anti-invasion defence system designed to protect Britain during the Second World War.

Such bunkers were typically manned by the British Army or Home Guard.

And some viewers reckon the structure could come in handy again, as reported by Luxury Property News.

One said: “You just need to stick a machine gun in it and start sniping the wheels of any Volkswagens that drive along the road.
